SDG Team

In the spirit of forging strong and inclusive partnerships for the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the UNCT had decided to establish a UN SDG Task Team to facilitate and coordinate and provide joint UN support to the GoL in SDGs implementation in the country. In order to take the SDGs implementation process further and in line with UNDAF objectives, the UNCT has extended the terms and mandates of the UN SDG Task Team to play a lead role in facilitating and providing technical support to the UNCT through PMT.

Objectives

Under the overall guidance of the PMT, the UN SDG Task Team facilitates and coordinates UN support to the Government of Lesotho on issues related to the SDGs, as well as ensuring the SDGs are mainstreamed into joint policy, programming, advocacy and communications efforts of the UN in Lesotho. More specifically, the team will: 

• Actively engage with the government counterparts (the Ministry of Development Planning and other line Ministries) and provide technical support to promote awareness, as necessary, on SDGs through outreach activities across various stakeholders and levels of the government (national and district level). Also help in developing a common UN-Government of Lesotho communication strategy for SDGs in close collaboration with UNCG.
• In liaison with the PMT/UNCT, identify areas for advocacy and public dialogue to promote the SDGs in Lesotho.
• Provide technical support in prioritising the SDGs facilitating the mainstreaming of national policies and strategies and UNDAF to achieve the SDGs.
• Provide technical support for SDG data base by identifying gaps, baselines, setting nationally relevant SDG targets and indicators, and SDG budgeting through a national and sectoral/thematic consultative processes, in partnership with UN M&E Team.
• Coordinate UN Agencies’ efforts on SDGs implementation, including on Government requests made to specific Agencies for financial and technical support.
• Prepare regular updates on regional and global processes, outcomes and developments on the SDGs to advise PMT and UNCT to enhance understanding and facilitate coordination through information sharing.
• Support in aligning SDGs and other regional global and regional agendas.
• Support SDG Reporting by Lesotho. Also support development of common reporting frameworks for SDGs, Agenda 2063, and other.
• Facilitate partnerships development for SDGs.
• Support resource mobilisation strategies and efforts. 
• Monitor and share global/regional best practices and innovation on SDGs implementation, for possible replication in Lesotho.
• Contribute to the UNDG SDG Focal Point Network, through e-conversations on specific issues, and other.
• Implement other efforts as guided by PMT and UNCT.
