The launch of the Zero Hunger Strategic Review Report, took place at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru.
The eradication of hunger in all its forms is now a global agenda, which is stipulated within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). SDG 2, calls all United Nations Member States to “end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture” by 2030.
Lesotho has adopted and domesticated this agenda, however, the country continues to face dire challenges in meeting the 2030 agenda for the eradication of poverty and malnutrition amongst its people.
It is against this backdrop that the Government of Lesotho, through the office of the Prime Minister and the Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO), has undertaken a comprehensive countrywide perspective on the Zero Hunger Challenge Strategic Review, in partnership with three United Nations agencies: World Food Programme (WFP), The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
This review aims to define the food and nutrition situation in Lesotho, consolidate progress that has thus far been made by national food and nutrition policies and programmes, identify gaps in the response, and propose priority actions required to accelerate the target of no hunger in Lesotho by 2030.
His Majesty King Letsie III launched this report in His capacity as the African Union Nutrition Champion and Special Ambassador for Nutrition of FAO.
