United Nations Lesotho convenes a Strategic Prioritization Retreat
Participants were from the United Nations, the Government of Lesotho, Civil Society Organizations and the Private Sector.
The need for inclusive economic growth, stronger governance institutions, and the participation of all sectors of society including the private sector, people living with disabilities, and young people were key elements that came out during the UNDAF 2019-2023 Strategic Prioritization Retreat held at Lesotho Avani on 19th and 20th October 2017.
The importance of data to inform planning and policy formulation; and the need for peace and political stability to enhance development were also emphasized.
Speaking at the start of the two-day meeting, the Minister of Development Planning Hon. Tlohelang Aumane said the retreat had come at the right time when the Government is formulating the National Strategic Development Plan II (NSDP II).
On the other hand, the United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr. Salvator Niyonzima reaffirmed the United Nations commitment to support Lesotho and to ensure attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. “We would like the UNDAF to be strategic and to respond to the medium to long term goals of the national development agenda,” the UN Resident Coordinator added.
During the two days, participants drafted Strategic Priorities and Outcomes for the new UNDAF in line with the National Strategic Development Plan II and had preliminary deliberations on implementation modalities for the new UNDAF.
