The United Nations (UN) work in nearly 170 countries and territories towards eradicating poverty and reducing inequalities, as well as frontiers of exclusion.
Throughout our work, the UN came to understand that more and more people, particularly young women and men, are starting to push the boundaries of citizen engagement and work towards a future they want.
As a result, the emergence of new infrastructures of social innovators, entrepreneurs and civil society are beginning to dramatically shift the development landscape, accelerated by new technologies and new finance models. In order to adequately account for this shift in participation of local populations, renewed peoples’ engagement and need for local ownership, we have identified the potential of local civil society as crucial for achieving sustainable development and releasing the full potential of the local population , and therefore, also essential in guiding the work of the UN in Lesotho and key for achieving sustainable development through innovation.
