Building Resilience for Inclusive Food and Nutrition Security in Lesotho: Integrated pest/vector management plan

The Integrated Pest and Vector Management Plan (IPMP) is a safeguard and operational framework developed for the Building Resilience for Inclusive Food and Nutrition Security (BRIFoNuSe) project in Lesotho. It provides clear guidance on how agricultural pests, diseases and vectors will be managed in a safe, sustainable and environmentally responsible manner across the targeted districts.

The document outlines the national, institutional and international legal frameworks that govern pesticide use and pest control, ensuring compliance with environmental, labour, community health and safety standards. It identifies key risks linked to unsafe pesticide practices, such as harm to human health, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution, and proposes practical mitigation measures including training for farmers, use of personal protective equipment, safe storage and disposal systems, and promotion of integrated pest management approaches.

In addition, the IPMP embeds stakeholder engagement, gender and youth inclusion, monitoring and reporting systems, and a grievance redress mechanism to strengthen transparency and accountability. Overall, it serves as both a risk management tool and a practical guide to promoting climate-resilient, health-conscious and socially inclusive pest management under the project.
