UNICEFRequest for proposal for services: learner packs for remote learning
BACKGROUND
Coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) was declared by the World Health Organization as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). As of 14 February 2021, Lesotho had 9,852 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 225 deaths. Schools have remained closed following the declaration of a national emergency on 18 March 2020. Approximately 511,318 learners have been affected by the school closures with more effects felt by the remote and rural learners who have limited (if any) access to remote learning offered on radio, television and online platforms. Re-opening attempts have been futile with lockdown restrictions restored intermittently since the first 5-week lockdown that started on 29 March 2020. School closures have substantially compromised the gains in expanding access to education and improving the quality of education. With support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), UNICEF Lesotho is scaling-up education sector response to mitigate impacts of the current crisis on children's learning.
In particular, UNICEF is supporting the MOET with the finalization of learner packs produced by the Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC) to reach the hardest-to-reach learners. This work incorporates design,
artwork and compilation of compact learner packs ready for dissemination on multiple platforms as outlined in the
Education Sector Response Plan.
SCOPE OF WORK
GOAL AND OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of this assignment is to compile and design print-ready child-friendly learner packs extracting content from the LDTC learner packs.
ACTIVITIES AND TASKS:
- The overall objective will be achieved through the following activities and tasks:
- Compile weekly learning modules covering all grades from ECCD to Grade 11 ensuring they are age-appropriate, child-friendly, and that each subject per grade grouping does not exceed two pages
- Combine content for multiple grades under one module as appropriate, using the following grade groupings:
- ECCD and Grade 1; Grades 2,3 and 4; Grades 5,6 and 7; Grades 8 and 9; and Grades 10 and 11 to have a total of five (5) modules per week
- Extract content for the modules from the already existing LDTC learner packs and other relevant educational materials that are in line with Lesotho's curriculum and context to compile modules as indicated below
GRADE GROUPING / SUBJECTS / NUMBER OF MODULES AND NUMER OF PAGES
· ECCD and Grade 1 / Numeracy, literacy, integrated/lifeskills (3) / 1 module not exceeding 6 pages
· Grades 2, 3 and 4 / English, Sesotho, Numeracy, Integrated (4) / 1 module not exceeding 8 pages
· Grades 5, 6 and 7 / English, Sesotho, Mathematics, Science (4) / 1 module not exceeding 8 pages
· Grades 8 and 9 / Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sesotho Language, Sesotho Literature, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics (8) / 1 module not exceeding 16 pages
· Grades 10 and 11 / Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sesotho Language, Sesotho Literature, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics (8) / 1 module not exceeding 16 pages
